    Train wreck!
I bought this cultivator to use to clear out the island in front of my house, which was overgron with weeds and grass. The first challenge I had was trying to get the handle on, there is a rubber wedge that goes between the two sides of the back of the handle to keep the handle from sliding or flexing. When I tried to install the wedge, the opening was not molded deeply enough and did not allow for the screw to be threaded through to the other side. After banging on the wedge with a chisel and hammer, and then finally using a gas grill lighter I was able to melt the trough enough to get the screw through. The next call challenge was the cultivator itself, where half way into the project one of the four teeth on the augur broke, and then shortly after that the rest of this augur fell off, leaving me with one of the two augurs. Fortunately I was almost finished, I plan on filing a warranty claim. I purchased this product because of my past positive experiences with the 20V Black and Decker hedge trimmer, hedge trimmer extension, pole saw, circular saw, and my Playschool chain saw as my wife calls it. Having the interchangeability of batteries was hugely helpful, this cultivator was an absolute bust. Perhaps this might work if you were dealing with dirt that had already been tilled, or sand. I live in NC, and the ground here is somewhat compact, even after it has rained. I would definitely not recommend this cultivator.

Great for tiny gardens and flower beds!
My garden is 14' x 6' and one battery did almost the whole first round of the garden. But that was cutting up the grass and weed, stopping to throw out rocks and tossing long roots. As far as I know, there has never been a garden there. At least not in the last 14 years since I've owned my house. I've actually gone through it three times with my B&D cultivator making sure the soil was well broken up while waiting until the weekend so that I can start planting. When I started, some of it was hard as a rock so I'm amazed that I got as far on one battery as I did. I was fortunate enough to have a B&D weed trimmer with extra battery and City Mower base so that I could buy the bare tool at a much lower cost. Only problem is I wish I had this little tool years ago but I don't think it has been out long, Here is my little dog inspecting my garden. Yes, I haven't mowed in a couple of weeks, it kept raining and the weeds at the fence are mostly on my neighbors side. The part in the foreground is what I added when it was going so well. Still need to go over that part one more time.

    Good machine, with limits.
This is a good little machine, with a lot of limits. I already had 2 B&D lithium batteries from other tools, so the total purchase price of $67 was really attractive. This cultivator was harder to set up then I thought it would be. The cotter pins holding the tines onto the machine were nearly impossible to fully install. If you are looking for a cultivator to till a lawn that has never been cultivated, keep looking (you will probably need a gas powered machine for that). This product does not have enough power or depth to deal with hard packed earth (my yard is mostly clay). I have an existing garden, and I just wanted to turn over the top few inches and add in some additional dirt and compost, without taxing my back. The cultivator is perfect for that. It was even able to break up the clay. The tines did get jammed up with damp clay a few times, but it was easy to clean out. Battery life lasted for the whole job. Vibration on my hands was minimal. Overall, it got the job that I needed done, but it won't do too much more than work on an existed garden.

    Does what I expected
I was looking for something to mix topsoil in a new flowerbed, and also help with various spots around the yard (we have a dog) that need replanting. I like the fact that it uses the same batteries and chargers as my drill and string trimmer without getting yet another battery and charger.

    read the small print
Walmart takes the battery charger that usually comes with the product out to offer a lower price. I ended up spending more than $40 more than had I just ordered through the original manufacturer. Regarding the product, it's a great low weight low power garden tool and does what it says it should do.
