I'm happy with it.
I have read all the bad reviews but I have been happy with it. It definitely tells you when each color needs replacing, and lasts a long time for me. Super easy to install - much easier than my old HP printer. Not sure why all the negative reviews.

Worst Gift Ever
Thank goodness I didn't spend my own money on this printer. Read the reviews - it is an ink guzzler and the ink is expensive to replace. I can't believe I didn't hang onto my old Canon to make sure I liked this printer, because I would totally be hooking it back up. I will very likely replace this as soon as possible.

    Great printer for average household use
    We use this for random documents and the occasional printout of my son's ipad artwork. It's a workhorse printer in that sense. Great quality. The ink isn't running out any faster than previous printers I've owned. Good product.

    worst printer I've ever owned
    This printer is next to useless for much other than a boat anchor. Ink runs out way too fast. Replacement ink is expensive. The wireless connection is worse than terrible, I have to delete and add the printer on my laptop EVERYTIME I use it and what's worse is there is no way to connect to it other than the wireless connection. When even one ink catridge runs out the printer faults to an error mode and will no longer print even if it was a color cartridge that ran out and I only want to print in black and white it WILL NOT WORK. Very frustating to use and I would not recommend to anyone.

    Decent printer with flaws
    This Brother printer is above average for print quality. I had to knock down the overall rating because of a couple of issues. The 'yellow' cartridge ran out significantly before the other ones. The single yellow replacement is out of stock for how long, I don't know, so I can't just buy that. Now I have to buy a 3 pack with cartridges I don't need. Most of my printing is in grayscale. Even though I have plenty of black ink, it won't allow me to print until I replace ALL the ink. Seems like a sleazy way to sell more juice.

    These cartridges snap in very easily and they last a long time. The Brother cartridges are also less expensive than HP units.

    Excellent Professional Quality
    I love the printer and the quality of the ink. Yes it does go through ink, that is why I have a lower end Brother printer that does mainly black ink printing in higher volumes. The MGC-J497DW and its ink have produced higher quality printing than originals. I love the quality and ease in which if one color is out I can just put the one particular ink cartridge in. I love it.

    Great printer
    I love this printer. I have had no problems at all with it. The ink lasts like it says it does, the starter ink only lasts for 200 pages. It also works great in Grayscale, and then has been no gushing of ink. The only thing I could wish for is if the ink was a little cheaper. I write children's books and print them for my grandchildren.

    Prints well but guzzles ink
    I like the print quality, but this printer uses ink at an amazing rate. I don't do that much printing and I notice the difference from former Brother printers I've used. Add that it won't print in black if a color cartridge is low, and I would not recommend this printer.
