Amazing Spreader
I use this on my large property with no issues at all. Drive slow over tough terrain and north and south on hills and never have a problem. Don't over fill. If you take care of your equipment it will take care of you. I always by Chapin. They stand behind everything.

Terrible bolting material
My spreader is 2 years old and is now junk. I made extra effort each time I used the spreader to make sure it was properly cleaned so that's not the issue. When I got ready to use it this year, the impeller would not turn. The gear box is in good shape but where the shaft goes through the black piece below the hopper and the thru the impeller is frozen. I was going to take it apart but the screws are all rusted beyond being able to get them out. Fertilizer is VERY corrosive and that's why I always tried very hard to properly clean the spreader after each use. All of the bolting material should be stainless steel. I liked the way it worked, especially the 'no waste' feature but I won't be purchasing another one. Too cheaply made .........

    Model 8622B [black)
This is a very sturdy and well built pull behind broadcast spreader. I was almost finished putting it together (ready to put the wheels on). Placed one on and clipped the cotter pin on one side. Easy! But when putting on the other wheel I notice there was no hole drilled on the outer edge to secure the wheel. The factory “hole” was actually drilled about 3.5 “ from the end of the axle. It is one solid axle. There is no replacement axle on the website.

Good machine does what is claims.
Bought this last year. Works great unless you use Scott's. Maybe mine was damp but the weed and feed I got for fall clumped in the hopper and was difficult to get to feed. It could use a bigger more aggressive “chopper” bar to mix the product. Other than that i usually use lesco products with good success.

Tips over too easy on the slightest incline
Great seeder compared to the rest but the axle width needs to be extended to give it more stability when half-full of heavy fertilizer and used on the slightest incline. This thing started falling over when I turned around at a slow speed on level ground. Twisted the top hitch plate to a 90 degree angle on the hitch pin. Bought it from a guy in the box that had two and he warned me that they will tip over was his only complaint. Talk about burning your lawn!

    Great spreader
My husband and I were really excited to try out our Chapin 8620B 150-Pound Tow Behind Spreader. Every year, we walk through our large yard scattering grass seed and weed killer, this spreader has taken away most of the hard work involved in doing that. This spreader was fairly easy to put together, it took my husband about an hour. It was easy to connect securely to our lawn tractor. Hubby says it turns and stops nicely, and he loves the auto stop feature, because it prevents him from wasting seed and weed killer. We will definitely be getting alot of use out of this great spreader throughout the Spring and Summer.

I bought this last summer and only got to use it once last summer but used it twice this summer. From right out of the brand-new box it was very stiff to make it rotate to throw out the fertilizer. I thought it would loosen up over time but it didn't. When the hopper got low like half a sack of fertilizer it would just drag the drive wheel. I thought initially it would be the little transmission but it wasn't the friction occurred just above the impeller that slings the material around the yard. Taking it apart I could see no way to get the pieces apart that you see in the picture to try to solve the problem. If it had worked properly I would've liked this spreader but as it is I certainly can't recommend it. I'm going to call tomorrow and see if the parts are available and if the cost doesn't exceed the practicality of fixing it. So if you happen to buy one and it seems stiff in terms of getting the rotor to sling the material send it back immediately.

    Doesn't work very well.
The first load I put in it sat in the garage for 12 hours. The fertilizer bridged because of the humidity and the impeller didn't work well enough to break the bridging. The bridging was because the fertilizer absorbed humidity and change the properties of the fertilizer, but I think that should be expected and accounted for. I'd say the problem was 50% poor impeller design and 50% poor fertilizer manufacturing.

    Very Happy
When this was delivered I was a little concerned because the box was totally destoyed. Axle sticking out the sides and tape all around. It looked like it fell off a truck. After opening i was surprised that there was only minor indentations on the hopper. One piece was missing but the manufacturer sent it within a week. It is a very simple maching that works effortlessly. It usually takes ne about 1 1/2 hours to spread fertilizer from my drop spreader. With this spreader it took 5-10 minutes. The only drawback is that it seems to spread more on one side more than the other. But I’m experimenting with speed and adjustments. Very nice machine.
