G5 5587
It is a little heavy and thicker, but it does have need due to the NVIDIA Discrete graphics card. You can hear the fan when it is working, but it's quieter than a lot of other fans. First thing I did was perform a quick benchmark test, and got high scores for gaming, web, and workstation. I am using this for gaming but also to do some light 3D game design work. So far I have tried 3DS Max and seems to run fairly smooth, however, I haven't did extensive testing yet. I have used Unity and CryEngine3 and both load well.

Color Accuracy
G5 5587 have serious color accuracy issues, since I bought I matched colors with several laptops and devices, also adjusted, but still colors are not real. Rest everything is perfect, but I bought this laptop to work on Adobe Creative Suit, so for me its useless.

    Nice introduction to gaming
I'm not an avid gamer and the laptop I have been using for the last several years has been sufficient, until my grandson came over on thanksgiving and wanted to play Roblox. My old integrated graphics controller had a hard time keeping up with the blocky game and made the game unplayable. I decided it was time to upgrade. The G5 was inexpensive. Windows made it easy to transfer all my data over to the new G5. The hybrid hard drive with cache makes it simple and I don't need to decide if I want a file or program on the HDD or on an SSD. I was surprised to learn that the G5 also uses integrated graphics controller for almost everything except when it needs to use the GEFORCE GTX and it automatically switches and handles it seamlessly. I'm very happy with its speed. My grandson can now play all the games he likes to when he comes over. Things I don't like about it... I assumed the large grill on the front was an air intake, it is not. The air intake is on the bottom of the laptop and is completely blocked unless your computer is on a hard flat surface which mine almost never is. I'm also having a hard time adjusting to how I have to place my hands on the G5. I use the trackpad with both hands but primarily with my left hand and the position I've become accustomed to with previous laptops puts the sharp front corner of the laptop right into my lower palm, a little painful after a while. I think eventually I'll get used to different hand placement. Overall, I'm happy with it so far and would recommend it to anyone who doesn't want to spend an arm and a leg to play a few games every now and then.

Great performance, but built is a bit flimsy
You're getting great performance out of the laptop. You're able to play nearly any kind of today's games. Hardware updates can be done very easy, but removing the back panel proved to be a challenge. Only one screw to remove and panel is hold into plastic pins which are fragile. When I've upgraded my HDD two pins broke and now the bottom panel is a bit loose. I think the way Dell engineers designed the bottom case wasn't a good road to go for. Because of this little things, customer will complain (especially the ones that are looking to upgrade their hardware). I'll be back with an updated review once I properly use my laptop running AutoCAD, Inventor and other design softwares.

    Great Laptop For the Price
This laptop is extremely quick. It produces amazing graphics with out lagging. When it is plugged in, the fans run slightly loud, but by the time I get into the game, I don't even notice them. When the laptop is not plugged in, I've noticed that the fans run fairly quiet to conserve battery. I've also had a game running, had vitural reality goggles running, Microsoft Word, and watching youtube videos all at once and the laptop had no problem keeping up. I love the black with red keys. It's very easy on the eyes at night. The only con that people might say is that the screen quality could be slightly better for that the reds are true to color unless you mess with some settings. Something that can be upgraded, though. For the price, I highly recommend this laptop. Especially because it has a thunderbolt usb-c and can purchase an eGPU for upgraded graphics.

    Dell G5 5587
Very solid laptop. Handles games like a breeze on high settings, and works well for coding, and photo editing. Very happy with this system. It does get quite hot, which is to be expected with a laptop used for gaming or any strenuous activity. But I purchased a cooling pad to help and it hasn't been an issue. Definitely recommend, especially for this price point.

    Almost Perfect, but not spot-on.
The Dell G5 5587 is a fantastic device all around. I expect that it should last me the next couple of years and function perfect. Here are a few things that kind of annoy me. Air intake is limited when on a flat surface, so I will have to elevate the rear of the computer when doing resource-intensive tasks, like gaming. The keyboard and trackpad is shifted to the left and can be obnoxious. The bezels are also quite large, meaning that finding an appropriate backpack or case for this thing may be a challenge. Other than that, this a fantastic gizmo that most anyone would enjoy.

    Great expectations but under delivered
I bought the laptop to do computer programming, using Oracle VM Virtual Box and a couple of IDEs that were notoriously slow on my old machine that has nearly identical specs, only with 7th gen core i7 and no SSD drive. This laptop surprisingly is not much faster compared to it. Worse, on my very first time launching a video from the web browser (Chrome), this laptop froze about half an hour in and I had to manually rebooted it. Right after rebooting, Windows rebooted itself for some reasons (presumably for a Windows update, but I didn't see any confirmation afterward). Since then I have experienced glitches here and there, sometimes the keyboard suddenly beeped when typing for no good reason, only requiring me to do a hard reboot. Sometimes while launching many applications at once the mouse movement and keyboard commands appeared to be laggy. As for the unboxing itself, I was a little surprise to see the laptop did not appear to be fresh and untouched out of the factory. The cables came in bags although were sealed but appeared to be old. The laptop didn't have finger prints on them but did not come wrapped in any special packaging, unlike when you open an iPad box or a Samsung phone box. Granted this laptop was "built" (manually, I think) so it appeared to have been "used". I just hope that I didn't get a refurbished one, or one that was hastily put together.

Awesome gaming laptop for the price. It does get kinda hot though (when playing games such as battlefield 1 on high settings), and the fans are loud. The red keys are a little hard to see, but the backlit keyboard is pretty cool! This laptop also has amazing speakers.

After the first week I think this is a very good laptop.
I have a very positive opinion of this laptop after one week. It is very powerful compared to any other laptops I have used. For reference, I don't get to play with $2000.00 laptops. This one plays games very well. Many reviews said the screen is the weakest point, but it is absolutely fine for normal use. It isn't any worse than a standard home monitors that most of us use now. The fans do get loud pretty quickly when running off the power supply, but stay fairly quiet when running on battery. That's because it really allows the CPU and GPU to boost a lot higher, and it also increases the CPU voltages for all cores for gaming when plugged in. That is based on what I saw when using Intel's TXU. Note that I only undervolt to keep temps a little lower, and have no intention of overclocking. Overall, I vote that this is a very solid build with quality components for the money. I don't have any buyer's remorse after my initial experiences using. If it isn't shown, this is for the G5 with I7-8750H CPU, 16Gb 2666Mhz ram, and the GTX 1060 Max Q graphics.
