Issue withwith pen
My daughter has the Hot Dots - Getting Ready for 1st Grade with one reading and one math book. The pen works however, it does not respond correctly with the dots selected. When selecting the correct answer, the pen says the answer is incorrect! Defeats the whole purpose of making learning fun!

    Perfect for homeschoolers
    I received this set to use with my 1st grade daughter. We are a homeschool family and I am always in search of new ideas and methods of teaching math. This book really helped her to work independently with instant feedback from the pen. My daughter worked quickly through both books but she frequently pulls them back out to go through them again. I feel they have been a valuable asset to our classroom at home. I would recommend them to friends and hope to purchase more hot dots materials.

    Perfect for Struggling Students
    As a child, I struggled with math and had to have extra help for the first 4 years of my school aged life. It was not fun being behind and I always feared my children would inherit that trait. When my 7 year old started falling behind in math i wanted to nip it in the bud fast! Thankfully, I received a Hot Dot Grade One Math kit in for my daughter. After putting 2 AAA batteries in the interactive pen, my daughter was so excited to start learning. The pen allows kids to solve math questions in a fun way. The pen is very funny and interactive and does not make kids feel bad if they get the wrong answers. I am loving it so far, and so is my oldest child.

    Helps with Math Skills
    My daughter struggles in math. She doesn't find it fun like reading and she gets frustrated easily. I love that this set makes learning fun for her. She wants to practice math now. It's a great supplement to what she is learning at school. My daughter will ask me if she can play with it which of course I'm more than happy to say yes. This is a great set to buy for when you're waiting at practice since it's small and quiet.

    My first grader loves Hot Dots
    I received Hot Dots Let's Master Grade 1 Math free for review. All opinions are my own. Hot Dots Let's Master Grade 1 Math includes an interactive talking Hot Dots Pen and two Hot Dots workbooks. The workbooks include questions, and multiple choice answers with a black dot next to each possible response. Your child will use the Hot Dots pen to select an answer by vertically pressing down on one of the dots. If the answer is correct a positive reinforcement will be heard and the pen will light up green. If the answer is wrong, a try again message will sound and the pen will light up red. The Grade 1 Math books cover topics such as patterns, time, shapes, measurements, math facts, money and place value. My oldest is in 1st grade and this is a great supplemental math tool for her. It covers many of the topics we are currently teaching her and gives her great practice. It is, obviously, harder than the kindergarten book, but the difficulty is the right step up giving her the challenge and confidence she needs to keep her motivated to learn new things. Because she's learning these concepts I have to stay closer to her to help explain how to do the math, while in the lower grade level books she was just fine doing it all herself. She's an independent learner, so having the Hot Dots pen correct her instead of me helps her maintain that independence she wants, while having me close by to ask questions lets her know she can do it on her own with a little support. I love that the books present the same concepts in different ways to help kids understand there is more than one method to solve a problem and to help them pick the way that works best for them. Overall this is a great supplemental kit for teaching first grade age kids math. The pages are durable and made to last through repeated use. These books can be used as a teaching tool and as a review for previous concepts to reinforce those ideas as needed. I recommend this kit to anyone with a first grade aged child. It's a great introduction to math for them.

    Fun Activity to Get Kids Learning More!
    *I received this product at no cost to facilitate my review. All opinions are my own. My daughter just started first grade this year and adding is something she struggled with last year. While she is off to a great start, I'm finding this Hot Dots Jr. set is really helping her get extra practice in, not only with adding but with learning place value, time and measurement as well. She hasn't learned money yet in school, so we haven't really been doing that activity with this yet. We like that the pen lights up green for correct answers and saying fun correct phrases, and red for incorrect answers. There are two spiral books that are sturdy and great not only for at home, but also for travel as well. This keeps my daughter busy in the car and entertained when we go out to dinner, all while giving her extra math practice outside of school! Overall, we recommend it for all first graders! It's right on target with what kids learn in first grade.
