Been using this program from basically the start. It's different on the user end but always delivering the latest updates for the latest tax codes. It's very reliable. Having a trusted system/software especially for taxes is a good feeling. Start your taxes early and take the time to get every benefit the government allows via the software. You will be happy with it. Thanks.

No, No, and No
No meaningful phone support or chat. Software does not have option for some entries and changed my filing status in some places. Waited on hold 20-50 min.multiple times and often was cut off. When waded through enough phone menus and finally got in queue to actually talk to someone, static would be so bad that I barely could understand the person. This happened routinely. I didn't find one person who knew the answer to some basic questions about the problems with the software. Each time I got put on hold while they went to look up the answer or consult with someone else. One time the person did not come back despite telling me to make sure I waited. After 20 min.or so, I hung up. I finally decided I'd spring for paying extra to talk to one of their online professionals. You can't access them directly: you have to go through the main number and explain what you want. Each time I was cut off when they did the transfer. The last time I called, they told me the service wasn't available. I finally went in to see a tax advisor in person, who told me even they couldn't get through without a long wait and that it had gotten worse over the last few years. Last year was my first year using H&R Block. I bought the online version, had some of the problems I described here, but thought this year would be easier since my basic information would be filled in. Wrong: the system keeps a pdf of the return, but you have to fill everything in again, including all items for depreciation. So I then bought the version you download and store locally and am told it should now be easy for next year, but I'm skeptical that my experience will improve.

    Disappointed
    The software did not allow the 6digit personal id pin from IRS. Only the 5digit From the software. Because of this could not submit electronically. I had to mail it. Very disappointed .

    Oops! H&R didn't read tax law (and client query)
    Low confidence H&R software is accurate! 2020 Covid law hd provisions for tax law. One was for IRA & 401(k) loans. H&R didn't include in tax software so tax error (up) was HUGE if one took out loan & repaid it. In spite of over 30 queries (on line & by phone) error remained beyond 15 April until early May (lucky H&R got 1 month extension to filing). Fix was to OVERRIDE software and ignore warnings! QUESTION: What other errors were missed?

    Mostly Very Good, But K-1 Forms Are Poorly Handled
    A lot of the interview process is very effective, and it is wonderful to look at the Forms as they develop little by little. But the handling of K-1 forms (partnership report received each year) has not improved, over the years; The software is leaving it for me to add numbers directly onto forms - and the "overrides" required mean I cannot use e-filing. Today I mailed 85 pages (my federal tax filing) to the IRS in Utah. Not as good as it should be. K-1 is your big problem (in my experience for years now).

    First time in 20 years I needed help and it wasn't
    I have used this software since it was Kiplingers TaxCut. The interview always covered everything I needed to be confident in my Taxes. This year was my first time to enter into a partnership. The interview didn't cover some aspects of the schedule K1. And the online help was worthless. I had to go find a tax professional to check my work and explain it to me. In the end I had entered everything correctly, but if the interview had covered everything or there had been a way to get 5-10 minutes of assistance from an online assistant I wouldn't have had to go to someone else. Makes me consider hiring a cpa. Never needed one before.

    WAS NOT THRILLED THIS YEAR..
    THIS YEAR WAS AN EXCEPTION. i HAVE BEEN USING THIS SOFTWARE SINCE IT WAS TAX CUT AND HAVE ALWAYS BEEN SATISFIED WITH THE PROGRAM. UNTIL THIS YEAR 2020. tHIS YEAR WHEN I FILED THE SOFTWARE SAID MY FEDERAL RETURN HAD BEEN TRANSMITTED. WHEN i WENT TO CHECK THE RETURN STATUS FIVE DAYS LATER IT STATED THAT THE RETURN HAD NOT BEEN SUBMITTED YET. OUCH.

    Review of H&R Block Premium 2020 Software
    I think the software works pretty well for many parts of the tax forms, though more complex items still have to be done manually, which is unfortunate because their complexity makes the help of software all the more needed. Overall, for me the software was worth using for the time it saves.

    Happy with the product but not the sales tactics.
    I was somewhat blindsided by the required payment to e-file the state return. They were not forth-coming in that regard, but in hind-sight clearly hid that fact and did not make it easy to back out and avoid. The state of Michigan seems to be in bed with them encouraging e-filing. Also, the clues when my e-file was rejected were not entirely correct. It wasn't that I hadn't filed 2019, but that I had mailed them some weeks ago and they are likely languishing in some warehouse so had to zero out the 2019 income amount. The phasing out of media sales (DVD) also runs up the price so I will be looking at other options for 2021.
