Take your time
Overall this is a nice desk for the price. It has quite a bit of visual appeal when completed. The legs and draw fronts are solid wood, the front drawer surround, the back pieces, and the top are wood veneer. Due to the veneer, the top will have a repeating matched grain across the surface, but looks fine, and the repeat is less noticeable if you use a desk pad to protect your work are as I do. Everything matches well and the desk looks nice when fully assembled. NOTES TO CONSIDER; In order to have a long lasting and sturdy desk I STRONGLY advise taking your time and using a good quality wood glue on all joints, dowels, drawer pieces, and on the back lower leg brace in particular. That leg brace is only held in place by one screw and an unglued dowel at each end as delivered, and it will move if not glued. Using wood glue and a long pipe clamp (Could use a racheting strap or other strap/rope device) to pull tight while the glue dries ensured a strong bond. Be sure to test fit all pieces BEFORE gluing, and ensure proper alligment when glued and curing. I test fit the outer drawers and for some reason, they were better alligned when I switched them from left to right and right to left before gluing them. When done, I put small felt pads where the drawer fronts contact the desk when closing. This provides a softer and quieter close. The drop front middle drawer does not have any magnet catch or catch of any type to hold it firmly in the upright position. I may add a type of catch to prevent the drawer front from folding down when I do not intend for it to do so. I also but a little felt pad between the drawer face and where it contacts the actual drawer side for two reasons; 1) To hel fill the gap of space and make the drawer front stand more vertical (vs. tilting in a bit), and 2) To soften the close as well. One of the cam-lock fasteners on my desk did not work well, and I ended up adding a couple small metal angle brackets that I had on hand to hold the desk back and drawer support pieces together. I am not sure, but I may have screwed the pin that the cam locks to in a little too far possibly. There are no stops or depth indictor on the pins to help set the depth, so that may have been an issue that prevented the cam lock from lining up properly??? I have used these types of cam locks on other assemble yourself cabinets and furniture, and I am never very impressed with them... and they can work loose which is another reason for gluing. When done, I even put a little glue on the cam locks to help ensure they do not lossen. The desk came packaged pretty well and had no shipping damage, however there was a little defect on one of the leg pieces. I called the manufcturer on the phone number provided on the box and with the instructions. They were super pleasant and helpful. They sent out a replacement part right away with no questions and I had it within a few days. I never had to involved Walmart with the issue.

    Desk
Good quality heavy desk. Much of it seems to be solid wood. Not too hard to put together by myself. Directions were about a D+.

    Great-looking desk. Hardware missing.
Beautiful desk. Took a couple hours to put together, plus another 4-5 going around to different hardware stores to purchase the missing hardware (the threaded insert bolts I think they are called). I emailed the support desk at Hayneedle, and they got back to me after discovering that my email went to their spam folder. When I replied to their reply, I never heard anything from them again - not even an apology. It's a shame because the desk is lovely, but I can't trust that all the parts will be there if I order anything else from them.

The initial desk came damaged (top and one of the drawer rails) but an email and some pictures later, everything was replaced without fuss. Assembly wasn't too complicated, but, if you're not accustom to assembling desks, make sure you leave some extra time.

Solid desk, fit and finish fair
Packaging of this desk was very good and protected in transit. Desk itself--most downfacing surfaces, including between the slats on the sides were unfinished and sometimes unstained. Side facing surfaces below center drawer not finished. General fit and finish is not fine furniture grade. Having said that, it was easy to assemble, the desktop surface itself is great, and I like its size. No Heirloom piece, but a good home office desk for the price.

    Love This Desk!!
This desk is just as beautiful in person as it is in this picture! The rich cherry tones go with the mission furniture already in my home office. The quality of the craftsmanship is great. Also, it was VERY easy to put together. All we had to do was put the sides, back strip of wood and turn the knobs around. The company packed the product VERY well, so it arrived undamaged. Can't say enough good things about this experience!
