Cute imaginative toy set
I recently received the Learning Resources Jumbo Domestic Pets and both my one year old son, and three year old daughter loved this toy set. It was nice to see them enjoying a toy that helped them to use their imagination. The set comes with a hamster, dog, cat, fish, bird, and bunny. My one year old son enjoys making animal sounds while playing with the figures. My three year old daughter enjoys playing pet shop with this set. I would definitely recommend the Learning Resources Jumbo Domestic Pets. The animals are well made, and so far are very durable. My two children even enjoy playing with them in the bath tub. I can see them both getting a lot of use out of the Learning Resources Jumbo Domestic Pets. I really don't have any cons. Just pros: easy to bring anywhere, no batteries to replace, well made, cute, encourages imagination. I have another baby on the way and I have no doubt that he will enjoy playing with these toys soon too. The Learning Resources Jumbo Domestic Pets are each one piece, no small parts for a little baby to choke on. I plan on purchasing some learning resource sets in the future. My one year old son is obsessed with horses, so I will be looking to get a set that includes horses. Also a dinosaur set would also be a neat idea.

Live Pets Would Be More Fun
I asked a 2 year old girl and a 5 year old boy to help me review this set of animals (along with the Jumbo Jungle Animals). The first thing we noticed was a strong, off-putting smell of plastic. The 2-year old picked up one of the animals and threw it at the 5-year old's head and walked away. Then the 5-year old looked over the animals and said, "these are stupid" and walked away. The problem with these "animals" is they don't feel good (rigid plastic) and they don't smell good. It would be much more instructive and interesting for a child to go to a pet store and see the real thing, and to be able to pet a dog, cat or rabbit. These plastic representations are not attractive to a 2-year old because they aren't cute or soft, and they are too boring for an older child.

    great teaching tools
I JUST RECIEVED THE LEARNING RESOURCES JUMBO DOMESTIC PETS. I WAS EXCITED TO GET MY HANDS ON THEM. MY DAUGHTER HAD A FARM SET WHEN SHE WAS LITTLE. I ENVISIONED MY GRANDSON HAVING THE SAME PLEASURE. THE PACKAGE IS BEAUTIFUL. MY PEKENESE USES MY TABLE FOR LOOKING OUT THE WINDOW. WELL, I OPENED THE BOX WITH A LITTLE BLACK NOSE HELPING ME. I SET THE ANIMALS OUT. I FELL IN LOVE AND SO DID SAM!! HE ADOPTED THE GUINEA PIG. IT IS STILL IN GOOD SHAPE. THERE IS SO MUCH DETAIL IN EACH ANIMAL. THERE IS A LABRADOR DOG, A BLACK AND WHITE CAT, A COTTONTAIL RABBIT, A PARROT, A GOLDFISH, AND THE GUINEA PIG. THEY COME WITH AN INFORATIVE BOOKLET. WHICH PETS HAVE FUR OR HAIR? DO ANY OF THE PETS LAY EGGS? THESE STURDY ANIMALS CAN GIVE A CHILD HOURS OF ENTERTAINMENT YET CAN BE USED IN A CLASSROOM. DID YOU KNOW THERE IS AROUND 400 MILLION DOGS IN THE WORLD? DOGS BECAME HOUSE PETS MORE THAN 15,000 YEARS AGO!! THERE IS OVER 500 MILLION DOMESTIC CATS IN THE WORLD. THERE IS 350 BIRDS IN THE PARROT FAMILY. GOLDFISH WERE KEPT AS PETS THOUSANDS OF YEARS AGO. GUINEA PIGS ARE BORN WITH THEIR EYES OPEN. COTTONTAIL RABBITS HAVE A FLUFFY TAIL LIKE A COTTON BALL. THESE ARE FOR AGES 2+.

    Nice set of large animals
This domestic pets animal sets comes with a dog, cat, rabbit, guinea pig, bird and goldfish. They are nice and big, easy for pre-schoolers to handle. They are made of durable plastic, stand up to a lot of rough handling, and are easy to sit or stand in the upright position without falling over easily. Also easy to disinfect after a lot of handling! The set comes with a learning guide, a helpful list of questions for a teacher (or mom) to ask children about these animals that helps them learn about each one. My kids and I play sorting games with them and talk about how the animals are similar to or different from each other. Of course my kids enjoy just playing with them too, incorporating them into whatever other games and toys they are playing with at any given time. They like to bring these animals in the car, to grandma's house, etc. And because of their large size, these guys are harder to lose or leave behind than the usual small animal figurines. I would recommend this animal set for a pre-school classroom, or just for kids who enjoy playing with animals.

    cute and educational
I used these with my nephew, and he just loved them. Even though the sizes aren't proportionate to each other, they are very realistic. I, and he really liked how the material was soft and moveable, especially since he kept putting them in his mouth and chewing on them! They are moveable, but not poseable. I don't think that they would be as good for younger children if they were also poseable, as the joints would probably loosen up and create a choking hazard, so it is good that they are not poseable too. He enjoyed trying to stack them according to size, moving the cats legs open more so it could ride the dog, and try to stack the rest of the animals on top of them. The activity book that is included was good, too, and I was able to teach him a bit about animal needs and care and how to behave around an animal. All very basic stuff, of course, since he is only 2, but it is a start on the right road to responsible treatment of pets. This was important to me as I have cats and dogs, and this age is when children are so curious about the world around them. They can't help but touch, tug and pull at household pets, and often frighten the animals, sometimes even hurting them. I would recommend these to any parent, grand parent, aunt or uncle who will take the time to play with the child and teach them at the same time.

    These are cute.
These Jumbo Pets from Learning Resources are very cute. I'm glad that they decided to include a Guinea Pig. The rest of the 6 piece set includes a cat, dog, bird, rabbit and fish. They are quite large, which is good. They won't be easy to lose. It would of been nice if the box was a little easier to open though. Both my 4 year old son and 7 year old daughter really like them. The details aren't spectacular but they are okay. My kids took these in the tub with them with no problems. I don't know if the paint will stand up to many baths but so far so good. Some of them do have a hole in the bottom of them so it's going to be a few days before they completely dry out again. Included is a paper with a few facts about each animal.

    Love These Animals!
When they say "Jumbo" they mean it! The quality of the animals are much better than you get at cheaper stores. No sharp or pokey edges and completely safe for my 5 yr old daughter. She loves them! They come with a cat, dog, rabbit, goldfish, guinea pig, and parakeet. So fun and realistic for a great learning toy!

    Not As Heavy As Expected
The Jumbo Domestic Pets are a whole lot bigger than I expected, but they don't feel as "sturdy" as I was hoping. They feel like hollowed out plasticy-rubber figures. It doesn't deter me from wanting to get more, but it doesn't feel like they will last a lifetime. I remember the toys from my childhood were made with much stronger materials. My own children play with them even now! I don't think a lifetime of play will happen with these toy, but it's ok. They are very adorable and light enough for my two year old to handle. They are easy to grip, made with what feels like a rubbery/plastic material (as I said). They range in size from a few inches (for the smaller animals like the fish or bird), to 7/8 inches for the cat and dog. I can only imagine how big the other animals from different sets will be. I took a picture holding one of the animals so you can get a sense of their size. I think, for the most part and for the quality, they are everything you could ask for. They are fun to hold, my children are getting a kick out of them! Especially my two year old. The paint isn't chipping or scratching as far as I can tell, but after several more days or weeks of play, I'm sure they will show some wear and tear. That's to be expected. Other than the surprise of how light (maybe delicate?) they feel in my hands, I'm very satisfied with these toys. And delicate may be too harsh a word, but you be the judge when you buy. I have no regrets, and will probably go get the other sets!

Really gets imaginations and conversations going!
We received our order of the Learning Resources Jumbo Pets a few nights ago. There is a dog, cat, rabbit, guinea pig, bird and fish. My first reaction when I got them out of the box was that they indeed are jumbo. There are some similar animals sold at our local book/movie store and there are much smaller than this set. The dog in the set is a golden retriever and he measures almost 8 inches long. The bird is a parakeet and he is about the size of a real budgie. The animals are made of plastic, solid but slightly squishable. The details of each animal are nice and complete. The parakeet even has a blue cere (the area above the beak) to indicate that he is a male. The only issue that I have seen is that the cat has a seam up along his back haunches. It almost looks like it had been cut and repaired. If that is the case all that is left is a bumpy seam that seems very stable and unable to rip apart and doesn't take away from the enjoyment of play. My daughter loves them, she played with them most of the first night and when she woke up the next morning she went right for them. She loves animals and so this set is perfect for her. She is 2 ½ and she pretends they are running, walking or swimming in the case of the fish and she makes the sounds of the animals. These toys are simple but really get the conversation and imagination going. I more than likely will be ordering the other animal sets too.

    Great learning toys
Jumbo Pets My granddaughter, who loves animals, like a lot of children; loves playing with these toys in the bathtub, as well as playing ‘animal doctor' with them. She carries the little black and white cat around with her to play outside in the backyard and gives him to you when she thinks you need a snuggle buddy. My biggest gripe as an adult is the coloring on the Golden Retriever dog does not match from tail to body, but most children won't notice that themselves. Also, for being called “Jumbo Pets” they really aren't that large, I was expecting something larger. I also believe that the safety age could be lowered to 1 year and over; the animals are not tiny and don't have small parts. Keeping the age range at 2 and over, the animals legs, heads, etc. could at least move, make them a bit more fun to play with. But, all in all my granddaughter loves to play with the Jumbo Pets, and they encourage her to use her imagination, and in the long run that is what really matters.
