Worst Negear router owned to date--5Ghz UNSTABLE
This router is absolute garbage. I have owned Netgear routers since 2006. In the Nighthawk family, I've owned the AC1750, 1900, and 2600 (the best). I made the mistake of "upgrading" my 2600 for this thrash. I installed AX wifi cards in my three laptops and running with an ethernet cable to my desktop before going the AX route. While setup is the same as the other Nighthawks, configuring this RAX42 gets you nowhere as the 5G network is INCREDIBLY unsstable no matter which channel I'm on. It even disconnects periodically from the ethernet connection. It's a horrible product I purchased new. Even turning off AX and going AC does not stabilize 5G as the "no internet" connection messages are a common thing. Upgrading firmware did not help, nor did downgrading it. This thing appears to be a beta release and that's a problem. There are no issues on 2.4 at all. Either a firmware upgrade to stabilize 5G is needed or it's just a lost cause. I hate I gave my 2600 to my nephew. I'm now looking at ASUS routers as this RAX series seems plagued with problems.

2.00 out of 5 stars reviewVerified Purchaser11/07/2022SMART CONNECT AND 5G IS GARBAGEI've had this router about 6 months and it will not update over app. 5G is so slow won't even load web page. If you use smart connect feature it will drop connection every couple minutes plus it's so slow it won't even load it's Owen app to disable feature.Gspot

2.00 out of 5 stars reviewVerified Purchaser07/04/2022Get something else. Not worth itRouter was simple and quick to set up and worked great for about 3 days, but then was constantly dropping the internet. I tried everything from rebooting, restarting, relocating, different settings and even factory resetting but it would not hold my internet for more than a few minutes. I reconnected my 10 year old router and my internet was just fine confirming it wasnt my service provider. Im returning this one to the store.Ashley

2.00 out of 5 stars reviewVerified Purchaser04/25/2022Lacking SecurityThis product was easy to setup and use. I do have a questions, does this router have a firewall? I can not find any settings for access limitations from the Internet. Can you provide details how to setup the firewall/access from the Internet?Net2022

1.00 out of 5 stars reviewVerified Purchaser04/10/2022Is not a stable platformI purchased this as a replacement for an ASUS router that was giving me problems. I have used Netgear at work for many years but this router is really not a quality device. Once I setup the router it automatically locked my admin session out. I had to force a reset to get back in. Once in the same thing happened. After the second time I was able to stay logged in but I am extremely upset there is no FIREWALL built into the router. What vendor makes a router with no firewall in it? I am not sure what Netgear was thinking but to advertise this router as the latest WiFi 6 router with superior speed and built-in technology but you don't have any built-in firewall to protect my network!! OR is Netgear all about selling Armor to make more money!! I'll try taking this back for a refund but I suspect I will put it on display at work for everyone to know not to buy any Netgear home routers.Mic2022

1.00 out of 5 stars reviewVerified Purchaser04/01/2022The worst router I've ever owned.Constantly dropping connections, wired and wireless. I'm constantly fighting this thing. We have critical functions within our household that need to happen, my kid does online school and my wife telecommutes and this thing is ridiculously unstable. The constant nagging for a month to buy their Nighthawk service product is beyond annoying and takes "nagware" to a whole new level. 100% DO NOT recommend.Axxed

2.00 out of 5 stars reviewVerified Purchaser02/24/2022Should've been better for $200For $200 you would think this would last would last longer... We bought it last summer and it already stopped working. And as for range as soon as you are 100' away it stops workingAmosbella

5.00 out of 5 stars reviewVerified Purchaser11/04/2021Awesome router! Get one!Excellent in every way. Had a hiccup at first because I am using this with FiOS and wanted to replace their crappy router with this one. I had two glorious days of Nighthawk speed then my cable TV stopped working. Why? Because FiOS needs their crappy router to stay connected to the cable box. So, I simply renamed the new network instead of switching the existing name into the Nighthawk. Problem solved. I have coverage up to 150' away from the house. Speed test said the speed is "extremely fast, capable of streaming 4k on multiple devices at once." Anyone that is having issues is probably having PICNIC or ID-10-T problems. Everything about this router is amazing.Lynn

3.00 out of 5 stars reviewVerified Purchaser10/28/2021Skeptical customerI was pleased with the price but when I started installation I discovered issues causing me to question whether the router is new or used. First, instructions indicated there is a sticker in the device to scan that would simply installation. There was no sticker. Then, when I attempted to register the router with Netgear, I learned it was already registered. (Still waiting to hear back from Netgear) Lastly, after numerous attempts to install, I reset it to original factory settings. Success! I admit the router is fast, is secure and seems to cover my entire home with good wifi signal strengths. Time will tell whether I remain pleased with its performance.Buldoz
