Beautiful Hardwood Gate
This gate is truly an accent to any home décor. It's extra wide and it was very easy to assemble. The gate and opening are easy to open and it's wide enough for a large person to walk through. It's super sturdy so I don't have to worry about little people pushing it down. The only concern is that the bottom piece fits flat against the floor and I'm concerned about cleaning under it. I don't know if you have to take the gate completely down just to clean it. So far, I just vacuumed around it and it seemed to be clean. I would recommend this gate to anyone who need to block off an area for children or pets. The slats are small enough that my dog and cat cannot get through it.

Poorly Made Gate
First of all it was very difficult getting the packaging open and the gate out of the box, if that bothers you. It was glued and then taped so I had to cut the end that folded over since I couldn't get the glued end open at all. Took about 10 to 15 minutes to finally pull the gate out. The Regalo Extra Wide Gate with Hardwood doesn't have hardwood. The inserts sound like metal and they look like they are painted to look like cherry wood but they are poorly done. My family has owned a hardwood floor business for 70 years and I asked my cousin if she thought it was hardwood and she said it was metal. The rest of the gate looks like rod iron but it is painted with a black paint that is flat and not enamel so I would be very worried about using this around a baby. I tried to find out if the paint was safe but I couldn't find any information in their ads or from the company website about that. I got this to use with my dog so it's not a concern for me since he doesn't chew on metal. There are 2 extra slats with one being a bit wider then the other. They attach very easily by just slipping the end into the gate. There are 4 parts that have knots on them that are slipped into the top and bottom of the gate and you adjust them to fit the opening you want to attach the gate to. I wanted it in my hallway which took the smaller extension piece to fit. I started screwing the knobs to tighten it and I couldn't get it tight enough so that the gate would fully close and stay latched. I was afraid that I would poke a hole in my wall. I finally got it so that the latch was barely closed but one jump by my dog would have opened it easily and a baby could have opened it with no problem either. The more I tightened the knobs the more the gate started to bend in the middle so it was wobbly and maybe that's why it wouldn't tighten. For a smaller opening like a door jamb it might work better but that defeats the purpose of buying an Extra Wide gate. I have 2 other gates that are Extra Tall and they are made by another company. The latch on their gate lifts up to open and it easily tightens without doing any harm to my walls. I think that this type of latch is preferable to the one on the Regalo gate, especially since I never did get the Regalo fully shut. I also prefer the enamel finish on my other gates to this flat, black finish on the Regalo gate. I wanted to use this gate in my hallway and in our cabin which has hardwood floors but this gate doesn't have any wood on it and it looks very cheap besides not working well so I'm not sure if I will use it anywhere at all. If I do need it I think I will try putting folded pieces of material where the knobs tighten so that they will not harm my walls. I wouldn't recommend this gate to anyone whether they had children or dogs.

    Sturdy Gate
The installation of this gate is very, very straightforward and easy. Essentially anyone can install it with minimal to no confusion, stress, or issues. The wood piece shows on both sides of the gate giving it an elegant appearance. The metal is sturdy and smooth. There are no rough edges or sharp kinks along any side (this is common on low end cheap gate metals). The lock mechanism is simple but effective. Although, be careful how tight you pressurize the mounts (but tight is good). Reason for this is because when over tight, the gate will not latch in one swing. Regardless, the "push button to open" and "swing to close" mechanisms are perfect. the height of the gate is about 2.5 ft so if you are tall (above 6'5'') bending over to open the gate can be annoying. As a result, do not place gate in area of constant travel (if very tall). In addition, the extensions are very easy to install, one is four inches and the other is six inches giving a lot of room to cover. The have extra rods which easily slip into the the existing edges. furthermore, the spaces between bars are big but not too big giving a nice balance between, vision, getting stuck, and asthetics.

    This is a GREAT gate!
I LOVE this gate. It is called a safety gate and is so much better than the plastic baby gate that I have used. It is made of very sturdy metal with a swinging section that opens and shuts with a positive snap. It is rather heavy – no lightweight plastic rails. I use it to keep grandkids out of trouble, but my 120 lb. German shepherd is also kept in his place! The instructions to put the gate up are easy and clear. It should not take more than ten minutes the first time you try. The gate uses a screw mechanism to put pressure on the sides of a doorway. By the time the top screw devices are in place, the bottom ones take little effort and time to secure. The bottom rail can be placed even with the floor or raised to make the gate higher. However, if raised, people will have to step over the rail. So, you would not want it to be very high. My oblivious husband crashed into the rail when it was about two inches off the floor. He almost fell down and made a lot of racket, but the gate stayed intact, upright, and moved less than 1.5 inches on the door frame. The gate works as good as it looks. I’m very satisfied!

    GREAT GATE!
I received this product free for my honest review. Package was received in great packing material with very explicit instructions on assembly. Mainly, there is a "bent" looking piece that would normally make one want to try to straighten it out and it had a HUGE orange instruction sheet telling you NOT to straighten it out, it was supposed to be that way. Very good instructions and SIMPLE assembly. The gate fits perfect in my standard doorway keeping my dog out of the hallway and in the living room. The gate did come with screws to anchor to the door panel but I used the tension of the gate only as I didn't want to put holes in the door frame. It works PERFECTLY. Love the fact that I don't have to step over a gate (like my old one), and end up tripping over it. This has a perfect walk-through feature that I absolutely love!!! Not only is it practical, it looks very good, black with a walnut trim on it. It is functional and sturdy! I would highly recommend this product for anyone with pet issues or with small children, although, they might be able to figure the opening mechanism after many attempts! Great gate!!!

    Stylish and great height
I needed a gate for my porch and wanted one that was wide enough so I was happy to see this on the selection list. Unfortunately even with the two extensions it was still not wide enough for the intended area. It will fit well at the front door so when the weather cools down I will use it there. When we opened the box the door to the gate would not open so my son had to bend it far enough to get it to open easier. You need to pull the buttons on the gate back from both sides. This is a stylish gate and is higher than an ordinary baby gate. The look of the gate is great with the strip that kind of looks like wood. I will not distract from your home decor but could add to it. When I tried to open the gate I found out that it would not open. My son had to bend it back to get it to where you could open and close it easier. You will need to pull back both of the buttons in order to get the gate to open. I wish the extension panels would have been wider. I needed at least one side to be twice as wide to work where I wanted to fit it. I like the style and look of this gate and it will do well to keep my little furbabies from getting out when I want the house to air out or just to keep them out of a room for a bit.

    Love this gate!
I love this gate! I have tried the standard wooden gates, and even tried similar gates and this one blows them all away. This is the first hate I have found with a door that actually fits my hallway, so we'll infact that I even took out one of the extension pieces! This. Ones with three extension pieces which is unheard of! So it fits doorways and hallways! Also comes with pieces that screw into the wall that the tightening pieces fit in to to give you an even sturdier gate, what mom doesn't want that? This gate isn't super tall but tall enough. I have two malamutes and they can't jump over it. It's much easier than other gates to open, simply squeeze the two pieces together and swing open the door, the doorway is even big enough for larger people like myself to pass through. Another huge plus for me was the looks! It's black metal with wood look inserts. Matches my decor SO much better than the standard white.

Beautiful, Sturdy and Easy to Use!!!
This is a great elegant gate and will make a very nice addition to your home. I would like to first start off by mentioning read all of the information that comes with it. I looked at the gate and noticed a fairly good size gap between the gate and latch system and immediately thought I would not be able to use it. I am guilty I did not bother to read the card that came with the registration explaining that this is not a defect. Once I began to put the pieces together and turn the knobs the pressure began to close the gap. In my defense this is my first pressure gate, a lesson well learned. I decided to place my gate between the entrance to my kitchen in order to eliminate issues of my little boy digging in the fridge, works like a charm. After setting up the gate I would have to say this is one of the better looking gates I have seen so far, I like it so much that I have decided to leave it up. The gate is easy to set up, easy to use and looks great I don't have much to complain about. The one thing that I would like to see is the little walk through entrance could be a few inches wider, otherwise, the product is excellent. I love my new gate and would highly recommend it.

    Beautiful gate
This gate is wonderful in that it is extra wide with detachable side panels and a swinging walk through gate for easy entry and exit. The style and color is a beautiful black with hardwood accents that give this gate great style and you will not mind having it in your home for guests to see rather than the basic wooden and white plastic baby gates. I mounted this gate using the pressure mounting system but it also comes with the hardware to install through the door frame or wall. I just prefer not to drill any holes. I have newborn twin boys and a two year old toddler and this gate is the perfect addition to my baby proofing. My toddler is a big helper and all she wants to do is hold her brothers and help feed and everything else for them but she is still working on being gentle, she does not realize her own strength. This gate allows me to place the twins in their pack and play safely without worrying that my toddler is trying to pick them up or disturb them. The only negative to this gate is that my toddler watches very closely and I can see her figuring out how to open the walk through gate. It is a button that you push together and slide down and you push the gate open. It is a two step process but it is rather easy and I have to keep a eye on her because she sees us opening the gate and I know it won't be long before she figures it out. I would recommend this product greatly but I wish the opening system was a little more difficult to open. More of a child proof would ideal.

    Excellent
I love the clean metal and wood look of the gate. It’s very stylish and I’ve been getting compliment on it since I put it up. I used mine without the extenders and it works just fine. I wasn’t too sure about the gate when I first got it. I mean it looked good but I haven’t had much luck with pressure mounted gates so far. The one thing I did like was it did not have little holes that little toes could hook themselves into and manage to somehow find a way to scale over it (has happened 3 times with other gates). The lines are clean and the wood adds just enough color that the gate doesn’t seem like a gate just another door way, just smaller. When it comes out of the box it looks broken but it’s a pressure mount, when it’s tightened the pieces straighten out into the correct position. It has these little plastic pieces that screw into the wall that the adjusting screws fit into that I’m pretty sure won’t hold up to a very determined child (as mine is very determined to break it down), but it does offer a bit of security and stability to the gate (she hasn’t managed to break it down yet) . It has a double sided slid lock that’s perfect because little hands can’t slide both sides at the same time. It also has a little tab at the bottom to make sure it only swings on way. One word of advice, do not make it too tight or you won’t be able to open and close it easily. If it’s too tight the gate will stick when opening and won’t close properly.
