Ideal starter reel for older kids
Ideal reel for older kids who have out grown cartoon themed combos. Easy to cast. Good rod sensitivity. Up dated design.

    Junk.. pick something else
    I purchased this combo for my daughter. The very first use, the reel is inoperable. Upon inspection, half of the pre-strung line is wrapped above the spindle. There is no way to get it out because of the way the reel is built. The top half of the plastic reel case dose not fit or thread correctly to reassemble. Cheaply made. I understand it's an inexpensive set, but come on man, not even one fishing trip before it's garbage??

    Broke immediately
    Bought this for a 5 year old. Just took the pole out of the box and the reel broke immediately after the first turn of the handle. Do not recommend.

    solid youth fishing pole
    I purchased these rods for my sons for Christmas. We live in an area where winters are mild so we were able to test them out immediately. They are the perfect rod for beginner or slightly experienced youth. Excellent quality, easy to set up and easy to maneuver. This is the rod to choose once they've outgrown the "kiddie" rods that you purchase at the regular box store.

    I started using Shakespeare rods and reels about 15 years ago. The quality and reliability has been incredible. Today my kids enjoy your products and refuse to use anything else. The Amphibians have been tremendous, even spooled with heavy braid it's unbelievable how well they cast. Never tangle, backlash, etc. Rods are remarkably high quality as well and have done consistently better than other similar brands. Overall the Amphibian combos have highly exceeded our expectations and we will continue to enjoy them for many years to come.

    My grand children were extremely happy
    Went fishing with my 4 and 7 year old grand children. The product was excellent to initiate them to fishing. They caught trouts for their first fishing trip. We had a beautiful diner. They want to go back!!!

    Grandson Birthday gift
    I am tired of seeing kids rod & reel combos that are cheap and don't last. I purchased this because of the quality. It is a little big for my grandson to handle on his own, but he can grow in to it. His parents can help him in the mean time. Thanks Shakespeare.

    Great for instruction !
    We use this combo for a reward/prize in a Fishing Club we creted 2 years ago. Both new/younger, and older Fisherman loved to use these for casting contests and Tourney type contests ! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
