Happiness after perchase
Was not sure if I would like this item but since they did not have the one I really wanted I opted to buy this one instead. And after using it several times I am totally happy with it and will buy another if I need to in the future.

Good rod, beginner tackle.. bad reel.
Always do your research before you buy your first reel! This rod and reel combo is decent for the price, the fiberglass rod lasts an ok amount of pressure, and if it does end up breaking at the tip, you can just use the next hoop as the tip. It's a good rod for the price, at a decent height. The tackle is ok for beginner tackle, and exceeded my expectations for what i paid for it; however, you should invest in an actual tackle box and additional tackle. I personally don't like using an open reel and especially don't reccomend it to beginners, the string is also not that strong, I would highly reccomend getting another reel(closed reel for beginners) that has a good line on it.

    Great into cadting rod!
Great to teach.casting to adults new to fishing or to kids. It is not meant to catch. heavy fish as the line might break. If someone loves fishing they can move up to more heavy duty equipment. It was perfect.

    Good light duty set.
I bought this little set for a day trip, it turned in to my always have it with me pole. Worked great on the smaller trout I caught, up to about 16"-18", the reel is smooth and feels solid to me. I would definitely buy one again.

    Very Good Beginner Fishing Kit
Excellent starter kit for a beginner. Teach the young to fish for trout and other pan fish.

Cheap rod and reel combo, online description says its ugly stik rod but it isn't, Reel is cheaply made so don't expect to use this setup for large fish.

Great value for first time fishermen.
Heading up to our annual camping trip where there is a stocked pond, my son and daughter both wanted to try fishing this year. I was able to get one of these (http://www.walmart.com/ip/Shakespeare-Disney-Frozen-Fishing-Kit/43925891) for my daughter to test and review but my sons needed something plus some tackle. I pick this combo up from a Walmart store on the way and it worked flawlessly. My son was able to learn casting and reeling with the open reel and after getting some nice wiggly worms, caught a good sized bass for his first catch. This was a great value and if it lasts a few more fishing trips, it'll be well worth the $17.
