Great purchase
My FAVORITE fishing pole. I use for everything: catfish, bluegill, trout. The reel is smooth for the price. I love the size of the pole and the reel.

    Poor quality, had better with competing brands
    First off, while it is a little late in the fishing season to return this, im going to keep it, but there are problems straight out of the box...both with the product and with the handling of it (I suppose). Shakespeare has the gear ratio/line yardage stamped on a sticker, which is inconvenient because a few trips to a lake and that will come straight off, especially since it overlaps where the line has been kept during shipment and if I store the rod and out the line through the line keeper on the reel then that will make the sticker come off as well. Then there is the cork handle part above the reel, I have never used this pole, it's straight out of the box and the cork is coming off in layers already. Then there is the reel itself that shows some signs of damage, this will likely cut my line at some point.

    Bought as a gift. First time my son used it the handle fell off! Wasn't a great fishing trip. Pre loaded line broke real easy...replaced with my own.

    Awesome combo if Walmart can get it to you in one piece! Ordered two, one was broke , easily got replacement but guess what, the replacement broke as well, dang FedEx…

    Arrived snapped in two
    Ordered 2 fishing rods and both arrived snapped/broken (shipped in separate long boxes that were both crushed). It's a bummer they're not sturdier or shipped more carefully.

    Tip of rod was broken when delivered and it was very late to arrive. I kept it anyway and cut the end off to make work. Other than that it works fine.
