The 4 Disciplines of Execution
I feel more like a victim of this book. It strongly emphasizes performance through an environment of whirlwinds, which is fairly accurate in retail, but focuses on execution of wildly important goals through accountability. This system although productive results in fear and intimidation, a nightmarish environment for a salaried manager in retail. Anyone that feels like instituting this nightmare is asking for plenty of turnover.

Most of the time we talk of strategy. I, for one, have held for a long time that a strategy without a plan for execution, is just a collection of words on paper. Similarly, an execution plan must be implemented, else it will remain words on paper. I like is that Chris has distilled the practice of implementation into four disciplines. When you think about these disciplines, it is tempting to dismiss them as common sense. In some ways, it is common sense. However, most of us also acknowledge that common sense, despite the word “common”, is rare. The principles, if implemented properly, can transform your business, or any business initiative. The author has included links to videos in the book. I like this. Inserting the QR codes at various points in the book is excellent. I dislike the last 100 pages of the book. Chris appears to have dedicated these pages to hard selling their tools and services. This, at least, was my lasting impression. It diluted the impact of the book. Barring this hard sell, the book is excellent. It's written in practical language, devoid of all but the most necessary jargon.

    Best Management Book
I already had this book. I bought these two copies as gifts. I wish this book had been around when I got my MBA. Bits this best business management book I've ever read. It's not just theory. It tells you how to implement the ideas in the real world.
