This is the latest boo...
This is the latest book in this series and like the other books; this book has aspects that are funny while other aspects are so silly that the storyline is not believable. I have found that the humour has become monotonous and therefore somewhat boring. This story tells of a Heffley family holiday where every turn that the Heffley family makes goes wrong. It was in this book that I realized that the Heffley family is somewhat dysfunctional like the Simpsons and the characters seem somewhat transposed within each setting - if you like Simpson's sense of humour and dummy sucking siblings then you'll enjoy this episode of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid. However I can understand why the children enjoy these books as they are quick to read, simple storylines , the scrawled illustrations are fun to look at and they feel a sense of being able to read a series.

    Nope. Didn't care for this one much. Way too many coincidences and truly outlandish scenarios. Part of what makes the DoaWK novels so engaging is their ultra-realism. This one seemed to doff all that in favor of an over-the-top and frantic form of humor.

    I LIKE THE BOOK BECAUSE it a great book to read and greg was going on a road trip and he throught it was good but when he got there he want to go in the pool and it was full and he seat in the chair for 30 min and greg wanted t go to sleep and then they went to the store and he wanted something to eat ande greg had funn on the trip

    I thought Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul was a great children's book because it provided relatable humor that most readers can relate to. The book was all about how the main character's mother wanted to go on a "wholesome family vacation" and everything that could possibly go wrong, did go wrong. The main character, Greg Heffley describes in first person detail how the family vacation went, and all of the issues they faced along the way. For example, the family forgot to close the container that had all of their stuff in it attached to the back of the car, and it all went flying and scattered across the highway. The characters were very believable because the mom was all excited about bonding like most moms are, the dad was tied up with work, the youngest brother was "annoying", and so on. The characters are all very funny and can be relatable stereotypes for young readers. I believe that these books over-exaggerate all of the blunders to provide readers with the comfort of knowing Greg Heffley went through these things and so can they. I think the message of the book was that growing up can be awkward, but you will survive and laugh at it all one day.

    The Long Haul is the ninth book in The Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. It was about Greg going on a surprise road trip. His mom got the idea of going on this road trip from a family magazine.It already starts off hectic, when Greg has to sit in the back with all of their things.His little brother can not be woken up, or he would have a fit so the whole family does everything to keep him asleep. Some of the events that happen are them getting a pig, losing their keys to a locker with all their stuff, and losing their wallet with all their money in it. They also got locked out of there car and lost their sun roof. It all ends with Greg finding the key to the locker. This book to me deserves four stars. It wasn't the worst book I have ever read, but it wasn't the best either. The Long Haul had a lot of events in it that kept you wondering what was going to happen next, but there might of been too many. There were many events that to me felt like they didn't need to be there.It was good considering there were eight other books,it's hard to keep coming up with ideas, and I think the author did good completing yet another book.It was funny at some times and not as funny in other times.Overall this was a pretty good book.

    "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul" is the ninth book in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series by Jeff Kinney. The Long Haul is about a boy named Greg Heffley and his crazy family road trip. After Greg's mom read in a magazine that road trips are fun for families, she thought it was a good idea to go on one. First the family drives around for a while with no real plan. Then they stop at a supermarket, and Greg's brother, Rodrick, goes inside with some money to buy "essential" things for the night at a motel. He bought a frozen pizza, cinnamon roll dough, Cheese Curls, a 2 Liter bottle of soda, and gum. His mom wasn't happy. Then they meet a crazy family that they call the "Beardos." They try to stay away from them because the "Beardo" father is mad at Greg for making his son cry, no matter how hard they try, they keep running into them all along the road trip. Next, at a carnival they win a pig, which Greg's other brother Manny loves. But, after the pig bites Greg, his family gives it to a petting zoo, and Manny is very sad. Then they go to a water park called Soak Central and lose the key to their locker, and they were convinced the "Beardos" took it. After the water park, the Heffley's car broke down because it overheated, and some Spanish-speaking people were trying to help them. The funniest part was that the little brother, Manny, who is only 3 years old, spoke perfect Spanish. He had been listening to Spanish learning CDs in the car. When the family finally arrived home, Greg found the locker key from the water park in his pocket. At that point, he had three options: 1) Tell his mom and dad the truth and face the consequences, 2) put the key in Rodrick's dirty laundry and let him take the blame, or 3) flush it down the toilet. The end of the book was like a make your own adventure story because you could see the outcome of each option. Greg never seemed to choose the right path, so it's hard to believe that this story could ever have a happy ending. The Diary of a Wimpy Kid series by Jeff Kinney is an excellent series of books. This book, The Long Haul, was not my favorite of all nine books, but it was still very entertaining. I would easily rate this book with 5 out of 5 stars. The plot is interesting, and the misadventures of the Heffley family are hilarious. I recommend this book to anyone that wants to have a good laugh. You just have to read this book to make your own family seem normal. I would highly suggest that all middle school kids read this book. It is awesome!

    I have read this entire hilarious series along with my daughter who grew up with it and is now in High School. I have also substituted in an elementary school media center for several years I can attest that nothing flies off the shelf faster than a Wimpy Kid book. The kids fight over who gets to check them out. In this latest installment the Heffley family decide to take a road trip that fortunately for the reader goes horribly wrong. If you work with grade school children or have them you are probably familiar with Flat Stanley and the popular Captain Underpants series and Kinney lampoons both of them hysterically. The family road trip begins with a dive hotel that seemed familiar to some I have encountered. From there things go downhill with the acquisition of a pig ( you have to read it to see how cute the pig is), stalking by another family road tripping, numerous mishaps to the family vehicle, and a run in with a seagull. I am not a person prone to laughing out loud when reading but I did so several times with this book. I can empathize with the mom's desire to get rid of her husbands toy that is clogging the yard. Some of my favorite moments from the book included the high jinks that ensue when the dad tries to take a conference call in the car with an important client and the episode that results in the father running across a hotel parking lot with his pants around his ankles. Anyone who is in a family, kids, or parents, will find this book highly relatable. As an aside my daughter waited in line six hours to meet Jeff Kinney at the Miami Book Fair when he released Cabin Fever. He brought down the kids who are in the movies to sign posters too. The wait was absolutely worth it as it was the highlight of my daughter's life. Even though Jeff Kinney signed thousands of books that day he took time to speak to my daughter and was so incredibly nice. Kids also love his educational poptropica site so if you have them check that out as well.

    I don't think I've logged and rated the earlier ones, but they'd all get 3 stars - they're ok, somewhat funny, but better for kids. This one had me laughing out loud at some parts - yes, mostly slapstick stuff, but it cracked me up. Jeez, the seagulls in the car - the images and story worked together perfectly.
