Such a cute craft!
Such a cute gift! Had a great time making this with my daughters. The lip balm containers look like ones I've bought in the past at the drug store. We had a lot of fun making these! Also bought the Gel Candles and Crystal Jewelry from this brand. All were a 10 score!

Frustrating and waste of time
I cannot believe I bought this without reading the reviews! But I didnt and my experience was not a good one. My 11 yr old granddaughter and I tried everything. We just threw everything in the trash. After about 45 minutes of trying to get the wax pellets to melt we gave up. Looks like we werent the only ones.

This was a nice kit and I enjoyed doing the activity. Originally bought it for my daughters birthday party but after reading the instructions its too involved for that so we are going to take an afternoon and just do it together her and I. Ive played with a few of these sets before so Im sure its going to be great

    Follow Directions Carefully for Success
This project takes about a 1/2 hour of work and then 1/2 hour of waiting. If you have a food scale to measure out the exact grams of wax to add I'd use that. Also make sure that you have plastic wrap on hand. The directions say use a microwave to boil the water. I went with a kettle to boil the water in order to dissolve the wax chips and Color Changing Gel Base. Make sure that you stir until the mixture is liquid and also do not leave the two sides apart for more than 2 minutes or they will not stick together properly. Cleanup will be the most challenging. The measuring cup will become full of wax so I recommend putting it back into hot water and soap and getting the wax and color out before trying to make a second balm. We made two of them and the process went well. This does require adult supervision because of the boiling water. Kids will have a fun time experimenting and creating lip balms of their very own. They can also decorate the containers with various included stickers. We received this product from Horizon Group for free. Opinions are our own.

Fun Project to do with Daughter
My daughter is almost 11 years old and she really liked this kit! Making her own color-changing lip balm was a great mix of crafty fun and cool science. I helped her read the directions and complete the steps. It was actually a great extension of what she is learning in school about states of matter. Adult assistance is needed for this kit, but it's a really fun project to do with your daughter.

    A blow torch?
might be the only thing that might melt this wax... and seemed a bit excessive... my daughter was devastated and we were both super frustrated. not worth it!

Not kid friendly or fun to make.
So I bought this in the store for my two daughters. It is definitely not cool. We did end up with lipgloss that changes color, which is why I gave it 2 stars, but the process is a pain. It comes with little wax pellets that you mix with a "gel" base. You have to do it in boiling water--first problem for younger kids. My 11 and 15-year-old tried the microwave to get the water hot enough. It wouldn't melt the wax. I stepped in and used boiling water, but after 10 minutes the wax still wasn't melted. I worked with it some more and eventually settled on lumpy lipgloss. It isn't worth the money or the time. The girls weren't entertained, and we ended up with mediocre lipgloss that changes color to pink. Skip this one unless you are going to use your own beeswax.

    Dyed hands, and wouldn't melt
I tried this, and it was not worth my time. It dyed hands pink, from the base, not even from the strawberry scent. It made a huge mess and the wax chips wouldn't melt it took over 30 minutes of constant hot water being added.

    Messy Poor Design
The idea is great, the ingredients are so-so but the directions seem to be designed to waste and squander ingredients, and the measuring scoop provided for the gel is possibly the worst tool for the job, its tiny, and difficult to get the gel out of the measuring scoop. Why provide a measuring scoop that requires 10 scoops of the ingredient, when you can provide one that only requires one or two scoops? its ineficient wasteful and creates a large mess and unhappy mom and kids. I will not buy this again.
